Under the FATF's Travel Rule (Recommendation 16), Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) are required to collect and exchange identifying information about the sender and recipient of a transaction once it crosses a jurisdiction's reporting threshold.

This exchange is carried out using Travel Rule protocols: standardized methods that allow different compliance systems to communicate the required data securely. Below is a reference guide to the protocols used by major VASPs that may be encountered through the Blockpass Envoy - Travel Rule Solution service.

BinanceGTR, email (out-of-network)GTR is Binance's own Travel Rule network, run by Infozone Technologies. It uses hashed PII with mutual TLS encryption, and falls back to secure email for VASPs outside the network.
KrakenTRUSTKraken uses TRUST to exchange required Travel Rule data, applying the same encrypted, privacy-preserving approach across its global operations.
BybitGTR and TRUSTBybit participates in both major networks — GTR (Binance's network) and TRUST (Coinbase's network) — giving it broad reach depending on which protocol the counterparty supports.
OKXGTROKX is onboarded to GTR and also maintains a growing list of direct Travel Rule connections with other major exchanges.
CoinbaseTRUST (network operator)Coinbase operates the TRUST network itself, which now includes over 125 VASPs globally.
GeminiTRUSTGemini uses TRUST, designed collaboratively by leading exchanges to set a common compliance standard.
Crypto.comGTR / direct connectionsCrypto.com maintains established Travel Rule connections with other major exchanges, including through GTR.
Upbit (South Korea)VerifyVASPA closed, centralised protocol developed by Upbit in partnership with Chainalysis, used primarily among South Korean VASPs.
Japan/Taiwan VASPs (e.g. bitFlyer, SBI)Sygna BridgeSygna Bridge is widely used across the Japanese and Taiwanese VASP ecosystem for encrypted PII exchange.
